Will WHITE WINE vinegar help set dye of black pants?
I've heard that adding a cup of vinegar to the initial wash of black pants help set the color.

Actually this is only true on vegetable dyes. It is more of an old wives tale than anything else since clothing made today is mainly dyed in solvent dyes. What salt and vinegar do though is reduce the PH of the detergent you use so that it is less aggressive on dyes (and also on soil). If you really thought this out, you would need to add salt/vinegar to each wash since once rinsed, the ph returns to normal. If you expose the clothing again to detergents that are alkaline (all soaps are), then the effect will have been lost.
