Is Gretsch a good drum company? What do you think of this set?
Im a teen and have been playing in multiple school, jazz and rock bands and need a step up from my uncles old set. What do you think of this set? I dont want to pay too much but i also dont want to pay too little and get crap. go here: http://www.guitarcenter.com/Gretsch-Drums-Catalina-Ash-Fusion-Shell-Pack-with-Free-8-Tom-774604-i1399400.gc
Gretsch is a fantastic drum company and most of the older kits are prized by collectors. And while a lot of companies have adopted a "more is more" policy over the years (specializing in gigantic drum kits with complicated hardware), Gretsch has continued to make rock solid drums with uncommonly sturdy shells that sound great and will last virtually forever. And they're highly adaptable to different styles of music.
Over the years, I've worked with drummers who played everything from basic kits to double-bass setups that took up the entire rehearsal space. The Gretsch players always sounded really punchy, since the shells are made with more layers of hard wood than most contemporary brands. And most of the players with the huge kits didn't even use half of their drums and accessories, so their drum kits were largely for showing off. You'd be much better with the kit in your link than another one that seems to be more expansive, since the Gretsch will never let you down.
Judging by the reviews, the set in your link would probably serve you well for decades. And if you're buying Gretsch, rest assured you're not getting crap!
