tightening natural african drum skins?
the drum is made from some kind of clay and the skin is glued on around the rim,the drum has lost its tautness and twang but is not broken, is there anything that can be applied to the skin to tighten it or does it need to be replaced?
I talked with my brother (a drummer) and he said that sometimes applying warm water to the center with a sponge can help the drum tighten back up. He also said that it could also loosen the glue and make the head come off, so apply it to the center and outward to within an inch or so of the rim. Hope this helps!
